ADOPTING IN INDIA
Canada and India are signatories to the Hague
Convention. Both countries have
assumed responsibility of establishing centralized authorities to monitor the
international adoption process giving the highest priority to the protection
and well being of the children.
CARA
has been established by the Indian Government to oversee and manage the
international adoption process. This
government organization provides licensing to specific orphanages that are then
authorized to place children internationally. These children are boys and girls of varying ages. It is possible to
arrange an adoption of a child between the ages of 3 months to 12 months. Since
Indian mothers are normally not prone to substance abuse or sexually transmitted
disease, these children are normally of good health.
